The Journey Of A Lifetime

Hajj: An Epic Journey

The pilgrimage to Makkah, in Saudi Arabia, is a journey that every Muslim wishes to embark upon. The journey is designed to remind us of our purpose in life following the footsteps and practises of Prophet Abraham, forefather of Prophets Moses, Jesus and Muhammad – peace be upon them all.

Hajj is the fifth pillar of the Islamic faith and takes places during the twelfth Islamic month, Dhul Hijjah, uniting millions from across the globe. As all pilgrims are dressed in simple white garments, it reminds all of the oneness of humanity, by stripping away all markers of social status, wealth, and pride. In the Hajj all are truly equal. It is a journey that every adult Muslim must undertake at least once in their lives if they can afford to and are physically able.

What’s the purpose of Hajj? Here are a series of questions which most pilgrims are considering as they undertake this momentous journey:

Questions about Islam

Whats in the black box people visit at Hajj? Why do they need to travel to Saudi? How much does it cost? Does everyone have to go? If you want answers to questions like these, pop in and we’d be happy to explain over a warm cup of tea.

What's the history?

People have been travelling to Mecca for thousands of year, even before the advent of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him. In fact, the Ka’ba is the oldest monument known to mankind, having been built initially by the Prophet Adam and then rebuilt by Prophet Abraham and his son, Ishmael – may peace be upon them all. Find out more about the amazing history at the centre.

What's the motivation?

What motivates people from all over the globe to congregate at one time in this location? Mecca is probably the most visited destination throughout time. Find out more about why people spend thousands to visit the Holy Land.
