Hajj: An Epic Journey
The pilgrimage to Makkah, in Saudi Arabia, is a journey that every Muslim wishes to embark upon. The journey is designed to remind us of our purpose in life following the footsteps and practises of Prophet Abraham, forefather of Prophets Moses, Jesus and Muhammad – peace be upon them all.
Hajj is the fifth pillar of the Islamic faith and takes places during the twelfth Islamic month, Dhul Hijjah, uniting millions from across the globe. As all pilgrims are dressed in simple white garments, it reminds all of the oneness of humanity, by stripping away all markers of social status, wealth, and pride. In the Hajj all are truly equal. It is a journey that every adult Muslim must undertake at least once in their lives if they can afford to and are physically able.
