Although the UK is the seventh richest country in the world, many people struggle to afford food. According to statistics 1 in 6 parents have gone without food themselves to afford to feed their families.
With austerity cuts set to bite harder this year, many more families will struggle to provide for their families and some areas in the UK will be hit harder than others, Luton being one of those. According to recent statistics, Luton is the poorest area in the East of England!
The Ramadan Food Drive has been running for the last 4 years to help Luton FoodBank provide for individuals and households in need.
This year, through the help of local Mosques and donations from peoples of all backgrounds, Discover Islam managed to collect a total of 1,228 items. Many thanks to everyone who contributed.
We believe everyone should have enough income to feed themselves and their families with dignity, so we will carry on striving to tackle food poverty in different ways.
